What is a Puddle Flange?
A puddle flange, sometimes referred to as a floor flange or plinth flange, is a specialized plumbing and piping fitting designed to stop water or other fluids from seeping through floor or wall openings where pipes are installed. This component is usually disc-shaped or ring-like and is crafted from robust materials such as carbon steel, PVC, stainless steel, or rubber. Puddle flanges come in a variety of sizes and designs to fit different pipe diameters and specific applications, ensuring a secure and watertight seal in construction and plumbing projects.
How Does a Puddle Flange Work?
The main purpose of a puddle flange is to form a waterproof barrier where a pipe passes through a floor or wall, commonly found in areas like flange pits, bathrooms, kitchens, basements, or exterior spaces. When pipes penetrate concrete slabs or walls, there’s a risk of leaks. Without proper sealing, water can infiltrate and damage the building’s structure, leading to mold, rot, and potentially weakening the foundation.
During installation, a puddle flange is placed around the pipe before the concrete or mortar is poured.
